New European regulation for labels
Labels, everything is going to change! In order to give the consumer more guarantees, on Tuesday, November 22 an announcements was published in the Official Journal of the European Community Regulation on food information, which introduces obligations for producers.
Here are listed the key points of the new legislation.
Minimum size to make it readable labels: the labels must have the compulsory minimum typeface no smaller than 1.2 mm (by reference to the "x" in lower case), or 0.9 mm if the packages have an area of less than 80 cm ². If the surface of the package is less than 10 square centimeters, the label may bear only the main information (product name, allergens, net weight, date of minimum durability, etc..) Arranged in the best position.
Mandatory nutrition declaration: the energy content and the percentages of fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, protein and salt, must be indicated on the table in a comprehensible whole and in the same field of view. All information must be expressed per 100g or per 100ml and can also be expressed in portions.
